Why I Shoot With Canon vs Nikon

The Canon vs Nikon question parallels the Chevrolet / Ford thing.  I use Canon because the first 35mm camera I bought was a Canon, and I got comfortable with the brand.  That is pretty much all there is to it.  Had I purchased a Nikon, I would probably still be using that.  I believe it comes down to familiarity.

The performance of either of the cameras from either manufacturer is so good that it makes the debate kind of silly.  Each has it virtues and misses.  If you are looking at buying a new camera, look at things like autofocus, ISO noise, menu, etc.  That is likely where you will find the biggest differences, and what fits your style of photography the best.

The Lenses may be a deciding factor, personally, I feel that the Canon L  lenses are nothing short of amazing.  The autofocus astounds me, but that is a subject for another post.

In my opinion of Canon Vs Nikon, the bottom line is what feels right and what meets your needs for your style of photography.  Will I stick with Canon?  Most likely, as once you start buying the lenses and accessories, it would be quite costly to switch brands.  I use an APS-C camera, but I use EF Lenses, so even if I choose to go full-frame at some point, my lenses can go with me.   However, I never say never, I was a down and out Chevrolet guy for most of my career as an auto mechanic, but now I drive a Dodge and a Subaru, so who knows what may happen in the future?

Of course, I haven’t even mentioned the new generation of mirrorless cameras or the whole APS-C vs full-frame debate.
